Introducing Katy Yut, a dynamic force of nature fueled by an unwavering commitment to organization, efficiency, and order. With an instinctive knack for solving complex problems and an affinity for analytical thinking, Katy thrives on the exhilarating challenge of untangling complexities. Her lists are her guiding light, whether that list is a daily to-do, annual goals, or lifelong roadmap. When she's not engrossed in her work, Katy's gaze turns skyward, captivated by the enchanting world of birdwatching. But that's not her only practice in patience--Katy also flexes her creative spirit in the form of sewing, where art meets geometry and thrift meets function. Anchoring her adventurous spirit is her residence in the vibrant heart of Austin, TX, a city as diverse and dynamic as her passions.
Growing up
As a kiddo, I was always interested in numbers, puzzles, building, and tinkering, probably on account of being raised by two PhD engineers. Growing up in Coppell, TX, I was privileged to be surrounded by some of the best libraries, schools, and learning resources in the nation. One tough cookie, I participated in traditionally male-dominated science fairs, STEM camps, and good clean experimental fun at home.
Art
While I inherited my methodical nature from my dad, my interest and natural talent in art came from my mom. My mother boasts a long line of artists before her, such as Puerto Rican sculptor Rafael López del Campo, responsible for the statue of St. John the Baptist that stands tall outside of the San Juan, PR capitol building. This artistic and distinctly Puerto Rican blood has resurfaced recently, in my art collection, Moka Pot Magic, which was displayed at the Townlake YMCA of Austin for the month of October, 2026.
College
After a childhood in DFW, I relocated my life to Norman, Oklahoma, where I attended the University of Oklahoma (boomer sooner!) to study a variety of math, science, and art. I left five years later, with two bachelor's degrees and a master's. In that time, I had done internship stints in both California and Idaho, where I road tripped with my trusty cat, Moose.
Austin
Following the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing chaos, I found myself grounded in Austin, TX, where my sister had settled after college. For a few years, we lived together in north Austin, alongside 12 chickens and 3 cats, before I set off on my own to explore south Austin.
Today
Now located in Travis Heights, I find pleasure in dabbling in all manner of hobbies from sports (banked track roller derby, basketball, soccer) to gaming on my Nintendo Switch, to reading self-help and bookclub books, to creating art. Throughout the year, I make an effort to craft gatherings for my community to join together, whether through movie and meal pairings, moon and solstice ceremonies, traditional holidays, or for no occasion at all. Outside of work, I frequently find myself building and inventing tools with the assistance of AI. See periodization, a WIP period and workout tracker.
